It
has been well established by research investigations
carried out all over the world that addition of polypropylene,
fibres to structural concrete is found to improve
several properties - like flexible strength, toughnes,
ductility and crack resistance as also fatigue resistance.
Thus P.F.R.C. manhole covers & cover system have
1).
No Corrosion or Rusting
Unlike other prevalent reinforcement, plastic
fibre reinforcement doesn't rust which gives
it very long useful life.
2).
Crack Resistant and Ductility (Flexible)
Plastic reinforcement are ductile and thus these
are more capable to withstand traffic vibrations
and thus less or no cracks.
3).
Safety
Gaping manhole due to pilferage of C.I. covers
& SFRC covers & Jagged edges due to wear
in S.F.R.C. covers are serious accident and injury-hazards,
whereas PFRC covers are totally safe.

Polycrete
manhole covers give load testing as per I.S. 1726
& I.S. 12592
FIELD
EVALUATION
During
the period 1984-2002 polycrete manhole covers/ systems
have been successfully tried and evaluated in india
on busy city roads and have thus demonstrated and
testified that they can withstand impact load and
vibration of vehicular traffic.
Life
of P.F.R.C. Manhole covers can now conservatively be taken
as 20 years since they have been under use for 20
years without signs of visible structural damage.
On the othe hand, cast iron covers get pilfered giving
a user life averaging only 2 years. The steel/steel
fibre reinforced covers have been observed to give
a life of less than 3 years basically as they crack
at a lower load and then to corrode. Pilferege of
these covers for scrap for its reinforcement gives
S.F.R.C. even lesser life.
On
the other hand P.F.R.C. has zero theft incidence.
